After receiving more than 1200 entries from across Australia the Furphy Literary Award judging process is now complete for 2020. We are pleased to announce the overall winner to be Ruby Todd for her piece Awakening.

Andrew Furphy has made a film of part of the seminal novel, Such Is Life, as a tribute to the writer, his great great-uncle Joseph.

In retirement, Andrew Furphy decided that rather than buy a beach house, boat, holiday or racehorse, he would produce a film based on Such Is Life, written by his great great-uncle Joseph. “All my friends warned me against making a film,” Andrew says. “But I’m not too good at listening to what I don’t want to hear."

A GREAT book dies slowly, with various death throes. It might score well in a novel-of-the-century poll; Franzen or Rushdie might cite it as an influence; a new edition might be published on the anniversary of the author's birth; a film might be made, a TV series run.
